Welcome back to the Tour Notebook, the weekly column where we read the professional game through one question: is it worth traveling for? This week, the calendar itself — and how to look at a schedule of pro stops and see a year of possible trips.

A schedule is a map of trips

Most people read a tour calendar for the results. We read it for the destinations. Each stop is a question: does this city give a traveling amateur courts to play on the morning after watching the pros? Does the side draw — the food, the beach, the club scene — justify building a holiday around it? Where the answer is yes, it earns a place in our planning.

The amateur shadow-calendar

Around every big professional stop orbits a quieter calendar of opens, festivals, and league finals that amateurs can actually enter. That shadow-calendar is where the travel-worthy action is for the rest of us — the events you can play, not just watch. Tracking it is half of what this column does.

What we’re watching

The pro game keeps adding stops in places that double as holidays, and every new one raises our favourite question again: can a traveling amateur get a court within a racket’s throw of the main draw? We’ll keep answering it here, with the practical intel — venues, neighbourhoods, court access — that travel guides skip and sports media ignores.

The notebook lands in Travel & Padel Weekly first, then here. For the travel-worthy version of the tour — not the scores, the trips — subscribe below.
